Why the Emphasis on the Message of Fatima and the Rosary?

"[Tell people] to plead for peace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the Lord has confided the peace of the world to Her." (Blessed Jacinta Marto)

Why the Emphasis on the Message of Fatima and the Rosary?

The Message of Fatima and the Rosary are extremely important for ourselves, for the Church and for the world today. Every pope from Pius XI (1922-39) to Benedict XVI has encouraged belief in the message of Fatima and spoken of the authenticity and importance of the message of Our Lady of Fatima, as well as the importance of the Rosary in the spiritual life of Christians, for obtaining peace, and for overcoming the evils with which the spirit of the world, the flesh, and the devil continually assault us.

Pope John Paul II, who visited the Fatima shrine three times, said that "the message of Fatima is more important today than when it was first given," and that we are living today the twelfth chapter of the Book of Revelation in which the final battle is taking place between Satan, the "great red dragon" and Mary, the "Woman clothed with the sun." Pope Benedict XVI asked that the Message of Fatima be "increasingly accepted, understood, and lived in every community," and said that "the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, with their powerful call to conversion and penance, are without doubt the most prophetic of all modern apparitions."

The Fatima seer, Sr Lucia, in conversations, letters, and other writings has repeatedly said that the Message of Fatima and the Rosary are indispensable spiritual armaments for overcoming the chaos, and what she called a "diabolical disorientation" taking place in the world, one which is infecting the Church as well, and causing the eternal loss of many souls.

The Saints and Popes on the Rosary

"One day through the Rosary and Scapular I will save the world." (Blessed Virgin Mary to St Dominic)

"The best method of prayer is the Rosary, if you say it well." (St Francis de Sales)

"Say the Rosary every day in order to obtain peace for the world." (Our Lady of Fatima, 1917)

"We place amid present dangers Our confidence in the Glorious Virgin of the Holy Rosary, for the safety and prosperity of Christendom and the peace and tranquility of the Church." (Pope Leo XIII, On The Rosary And Public Life, n. 1, 20 Sept. 1887)

"The Rosary will be of great assistance in the last hour of life." (Cf. Pope Leo XIII, Diuturni Temporis, n. 7, 5 Sept. 1898)

"The Holy Rosary is not only a weapon to put to flight the enemies of God and of religion but, above all, it fosters and nourishes the gospel virtues. And, in the first place, it 'reanimates the Catholic faith by contemplation of the divine 'mysteries and improves our understanding of the truths revealed by God." (Pope Pius XI, Ingravescentibus malis, 29 Sept. 1937)

"If I had an army reciting the Rosary, I would conquer the world." (Pope Pius XI)

"Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today." (St Padre Pio)

"The Church has always attributed particular efficacy to this prayer, entrusting to the Rosary ... the most difficult problems. At times when Christianity itself seemed under threat, its deliverance was attributed to the power of this prayer, and Our Lady of the Rosary was acclaimed as the one whose intercession brought salvation." (Pope John Paul II, Rosarium Virginis Mariae nos. 18, 39).

"We need to return to the practice of family prayer ... continuing to use the Rosary.... The family that prays together stays together. I look to all of you, brothers and sisters of every state of life ... confidently take up the Rosary once again... May this appeal of mine not go unheard!" (ibid. nos. 41, 43).

The Rosary is the prayer which God, through his Church and Our Lady, has recommended most insistently to us, as a road to and gateway of salvation.(Sr Lucia, Fatima seer, in "Calls" from the Message of Fatima)

"The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families...that cannot be solved by the prayer of the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary we will save ourselves. We will sanctify ourselves. We will console Our Lord, and obtain the salvation of many souls." (Sr Lucia, Fatima seer, in "Calls" from the Message of Fatima)

"...the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, with their powerful call to conversion and penance, are without doubt the most prophetic of all modern apparitions." (Pope Benedict XVI, May 13, 2007)

Quotes on the Hail Mary

"Just as almighty God chose the angelical salutation [Hail Mary] to bring about the Incarnation of His Word and the Redemption of mankind [Lk 1:28, 42], in the same way those who want to bring about moral reforms and who want people reborn in Jesus Christ must honor me and greet me with the same salutation. I am the channel by which God came to men, and so, next to my Son Jesus Christ, it is through me that men must obtain grace and virtue." (Mary to Blessed Alan de la Roche, in Secret of the Rosary, 84); Cf. St Louis De Montfort, True Devotion to Mary, 156-59)

"Know, my son, and make all others know, that it is a probable and proximate sign of eternal damnation to have an aversion, a lukewarmness, or a negligence in saying the angelical salutation [Hail Mary], which has repaired the whole world." (Mary to Blessed Alan de la Roche, in ' True Devotion to Mary, 157)

15 Promises of Mary
to Christians Who Recite the Rosary

Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan
+Imprimatur: Patrick J. Hayes, D.D., Archbishop of New York
  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive extraordinary graces.
  2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
  3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
  4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
  5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
  6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered bymisfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
  7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
  8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in paradise.
  9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
  10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
  11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
  12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
  13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.
  14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brethern of my only Son Jesus Christ.
  15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Our Lady at Fatima, during all six of her apparitions told the children they must pray, especially the rosary. The three children responded generously to Our Lady's requests. What is keeping you from doing the same thing? Do not say, "I do not have the time!" Because if you are too busy to spend time with God in prayer, then you are busier than God intends you to be! Meditate upon the following words of Our Lord. "What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul?"(Matt. 16:26)

Fatima Quotes

"I am the Lady of the Rosary, I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and ask for pardon for their sins. They must not offend Our Lord any more, for He is already too grievously offended by the sins of men. People must say the Rosary. Let them continue saying it every day."

"You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If people do what I am going to tell you, many souls will be saved and there will be peace."

"Pray, pray a great deal and make many sacrifices, for many souls go to Hell because they have no one to make sacrifices and to pray for them." "Sacrifice yourselves for sinners and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice, O my Jesus, this is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary."

"Do not lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge, and the way that will lead you to God."

Our Lady appeared to Jacinta several times between December 1919 and February 1920. Our Lady told her many things including: "The sins of the world are very great ... If men only knew what eternity is, they would do everything in their power to change their lives." "Fly from riches and luxury; love poverty and silence; have charity, even for bad people." "More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason." [1]

"Certain fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much." "Woe to women lacking in modesty." [2]

"The Mother of God wants more virgin souls bound by the vow of chastity." "Confession is a sacrament of mercy and we must confess with joy and trust." “Many marriages are not good, they do not please Our Lord and are not of God.” "Our Lady can no longer uphold the arm of Her Divine Son which will strike the world. If people amend their lives, Our Lord will even now save the world, but if they do not, punishment will come."

"War is a punishment for sin."

"Priests must be pure, very pure. They should not busy themselves with anything except what concerns the Church and souls. The disobedience of priests to their superiors and to the Holy Father is very displeasing to Our Lord."

"Tell everybody that God gives graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Tell them to ask graces from Her and that the Heart of Jesus wishes to be venerated together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Ask them to plead for peace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the Lord has confided the peace of the world to Her."

Notes

1. "More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason. "Sr Lucia, the last living Fatima seer, said this refers primarily to sins against chastity, also called sins of impurity. The reason for this statement is not because sins against chastity are the most grievous , but the most common and, as Sr Lucia stated, "because of conscience," sins of impurity are less likely to be repented of than other sins. Why?

a. because the sense of injustice committed, which is the primary stimulus to repent of one's sins, is not strongly felt when engaging in them, with the exception of adultery;

b. there is a greater sense of shame when committing certain impure acts and hence greater difficulty confessing them in the sacrament of confession, or even repenting of them in one's heart;

c. sexual activity of all kinds is presented by our post-Christian -- even antiChristian -- popular culture as natural and good, and sexual abstinence is even taught to be unhealthy. The sixth commandment, relating to chastity, has always been called "the difficult commandment." Today, with pornography everywhere and women and girls dressing more immodestly than ever, it can almost be called "the impossible commandment." However, Jesus assures us: "What is impossible with men is possible with God." (Lk 18:27)

d. We may add that all who invoke the Blessed Virgin Mary for help in overcoming sins of impurity, will receive the grace to do so, as she herself has revealed to St Bridget of Sweden and various other saints. And those who strive to live chaste lives know from experience, when sins of impurity are humbly repented of and confessed, a great burden is removed from our consciences, and we experience that peace of soul that the world and carnal indulgence cannot give.

2. Jacinta, before she died, said Our Lady had told her that certain fashions would be introduced that would greatly offend Our Lord, who had said, "Every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Mt 5.28).

Saint John Chrysostom instructed women of all times about dress when in the fourth century he declared: "You carry your snare everywhere and spread your nets in all places. You allege that you never invited others to sin. You did not, indeed, by your words, but you have done so by your dress and your deportment. ... When you have made another sin in his heart, how can you be innocent? Tell me, whom does this world condemn? Whom do judges punish? Those who drink poison or those who prepare it and administer the fatal potion? You have prepared the abominable cup, you have given the death dealing drink, and you are more criminal than are those who poison the body; you murder not the body but the soul. And it is not to enemies you do this, nor are you urged on by any imaginary necessity, nor provoked by injury, but out of foolish vanity and pride." The late Father Bernard A. Kunkel, a great defender of modesty and decency, said concerning the words of Our Lady of Fatima: "She knew that...forces of evil would design these fashions, together with the filthy literature...movies and television shows...all as part of their program to break down morality, especially among the young people. Our Lady was only exposing this plan."

Reparation for the sins commited against the Immaculate Heart of Mary On December 10, 1925, Our Lady, holding the Child Jesus close, appeared to Sister Lucia at her convent in Pontevedra, Spain, and showed her her Heart. The Child said, "Have pity on the heart of your Blessed Mother, which is covered with thorns that ungrateful men push in at every moment, with no one making an act of reparation to pull them out." Our Lady then added, "Look, my daughter, at my Heart surrounded by thorns that ungrateful men are continually pushing in with their blasphemies and their ingratitude.

You, at least, must take care to console me. Tell everyone for me that if they, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, make a good confession [may be made within eight days, before or after], receive Holy Communion, say a Rosary [five decades], and keep Me company for a quarter of an hour by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary for the intention of making reparation to me,* I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls."

The Five First Saturdays Devotion is for the purpose of of making reparation for the five principle sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary: the sin of those who deny her Immaculate Conception those who deny her Perpetual Virginity (being a virgin before, during, and after giving birth to Jesus) those who deny her Divine Motherhood (being Mother of the divine Person Jesus Christ and therefore “Mother of God”) and deny her being our spiritual Mother those who oppose and attack her images those who teach children not to love and honor her. Jesus to Sr. Lucia: "Ask, ask again insistently for promulgation of the Communion of Reparation in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the First Saturdays. The time is coming when the rigor of my justice will punish the crimes of diverse nations. Some of them will be annihilated."

Fatima and Hell (the 'First Secret' of Fatima.

On July 13, 1917 the Blessed Virgin unveiled a terrifying reality before the children's eyes: "Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire, which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls, in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in this conflagration in clouds of smoke, lifted by flames coming out of their bodies. They rose and fell on all sides, like sparks in roaring fires, without weight or direction, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair that terrified us and made us tremble with fear.

The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals. This vision lasted but a moment, thanks to our good Mother from Heaven who had warned us beforehand, and promised to take us to Heaven. Otherwise, I think we would have died of horror and fear.

Then we raised our eyes to Our Lady, who said with kindness and sadness: 'You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If people do what I am going to tell you, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.' " Our Lady further said, "Pray, pray a great deal and make many sacrifices, for many souls go to Hell because they have no one to make sacrifices and to pray for them.”

One more proof:

The existence of Hell arouses disputes. Sister Lucia wrote, a few years before her death on February 13, 2005: "There is no shortage of unbelievers in the world who deny these truths, but they are no less true for being denied. Their disbelief does not save unbelievers from the horrors of Hell, should a life of sin lead them there. ... At Fatima, (God) sent us His Message as one more proof of these truths. This Message recalls them to us, so that we do not let ourselves be fooled by the false doctrines of unbelievers who deny them, or of deceivers who distort them. To this end, the Message assures us that Hell is a fact, and that the souls of poor sinners end up there." (Calls from the Message of Fatima 2003, ch. 14)

The Blessed Virgin told them to keep this vision secret. She did not permit Lucia to reveal it until 1941. Jacinta retained an impression of it which left a profound mark on her. From this day on, she was very preoccupied with the fate of poor souls who went to Hell. She often sat on the ground or on a rock, and, deep in thought, she would say, "Oh! Hell! How sorrowful I am for the souls who are going to Hell!" Yet she did not confine herself to futile pain but she prayed and sacrificed heroically for those who were in danger of being lost.

A painful reality

The vision of Hell which the three children were favored with is not an exaggeration of the reality it represented. It is a presentation of it within the grasp of the human mind. In 1992, Lucia, who had been a Carmelite in Coïmbra, Portugal since 1948, told a Cardinal who had come to visit her, "Hell is a reality… Continue to preach about Hell, for Our Lord Himself spoke of Hell and it is in the Holy Scriptures. God condemns no one to Hell. People condemn themselves to Hell. God has given mankind the freedom of choice, and He respects this human freedom."

Having just shown the fate of the damned (in the first part of the Secret of Fatima) to the three shepherd children of Fatima, on July 13, 1917, Our Lady then confided to them the second part of the Secret. This second part primarily concerns Heaven’s requests for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the Communions of Reparation on the First Saturdays and the consequences of failing to heed these requests. As recorded in Sister Lucy’s memoirs, the second part of the Secret is as follows:

Text of Second Part of Secret

To save them [poor sinners who are on the road to hell], God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse war will break out during the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions against the Church and against the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays. If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated.

Conclusion to the Whole Secret of Fatima

In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.

Fatima Prayers(Prayers revealed to the Fatima visionaries by an angel and Our Lady) "O my God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.”

"O Most Holy Trinity I adore You. My God, my God, I love You in the Most Blessed Sacrament.” "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the Tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. And by the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.”

Our Lady gravely said, Sacrifice yourselves for sinners and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice, ‛Jesus, this is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’” "When you say the Rosary, say after each mystery: 'O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy'.”

Morning Offering: "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the Tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended, and for the offences committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, joining with it the offering of my every thought, word, and action of this day. And by the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.” "The devout servant of Mary shall never perish."
